Goals:
1. To introduce students to the history and framework of Mass Imprisonment 2. To introduce students to the structure of the Juvenile Detention system where there is a School to Prison pipeline 3. Have students engage and think critically about how this issue affects them 4. To create a safe space where students can share their reactions and reflections to the ideas expressed in class Objectives: 1. Have students become knowledgeable about the juvenile detention system in the United States 2. Explore how the School to Prison Pipeline contributes to oppression in the United States 3. Have students understand what life could be like for a youth who is serving time in prison and life after prison 4. Have students observe how race, class, gender and immigration status plays a key role in the juvenile detention system 5. Brainstorm, evaluate and create thoughtful advocacy solutions for a possible prison reform |
